novo

knife-edge conference table

Project Overview

The Novo job was a fun one. We built a total of 5 individual pieces for this firm based in Boston’s famous Hancock Tower, but the most significant problem solving happened around the series of 3 conference tables depicted below. The major features were as follows: knife-edged hardwood ash tops mounted on U-shaped/V-shaped bases, all of which housed integrated power and data ports. The longest of the three was 16’ from end to end, but to make it up 40-something floors to Novo’s offices, we needed to design each table to break down to fit into the freight elevator that was roughly 10’ x 10’ x 10. Simply put,\ we had to design something that could assemble, disassemble and allow for servicing by an electrician. And it needed to look good. I led the technical design, did the CAD and shop drawing work, and I led the onsite installation. Sitting in their home in the conference rooms overlooking Boston, I think the tables help create some pretty beautiful vignettes.
